elementary Boys & Girls Basketball
Basketball is a game that is enjoyed by people of all ages and is a great way to stay active and have fun. Basketball can have a positive impact on the community by providing an outlet for kids to stay active help prevent them from getting involved in negative activities. Basketball can help to develop teamwork and sportsmanship… skills which can be beneficial in other areas of life such as school and work. We partner with the Board of Education and the Wood County Elementary Schools to create a successful program for both boys and girls every year with a competitive tournament and championship games played at the end of the season.
Season Dates
Season dates are determined each year by school calendar. Girls season usually starts around the time school begins and runs through September and October with the Tournament the beginning of November. After Thanksgiving break, Boys Season begins, running through January and February. The Boys season Tournament is usually the first few weeks of March. Games are usually played Mondays-Thursdays at 4:45 or 5:45. Teams may play once or twice a week. There will be a 5th quarter played before each game.
Tryouts and Practices
Tryouts and practices for teams are determined by schools and coaches. Keep an eye out for tryouts days/times from your school. If you have questions about tryout dates and times please contact your school or coach.
Uniforms & Equipment
Players must wear tennis shoes and bring water to every practice and game. Players should wear their hair safely out of their face/eyes and remove all jewelry before each practice and game. Team uniforms are supplied by each school. If you are looking to donate for uniform purchases please contact your school and let them know!

By registering your child for WCRC sports and recreation programs, please understand that photographs and videos may be taken during games, practices, and other activities and may be used in WCRC promotional materials, social media, the WCRC website, and other forms of media.
If you do not wish for your child’s image to be used in this manner, please take this into consideration before registering them for a WCRC program.
In an effort to protect participants’ privacy, WCRC no longer publicly posts individual player names or game scores on Facebook or Newspaper. This information will instead be included in the end-of-season program that will be available for purchase at the tournament.
We appreciate your understanding and support as we continue to provide sports and recreational opportunities for the children and families of Wood County.
Mission Statement
Elementary basketball is a time for girls and boys to learn the foundations of the game
and how to play competitively. Parents, coaches, and referees are the role models
these players look up to and are expected to conduct themselves in a way that
teaches these core values and lessons. Elementary basketball players are just starting to
learn the fundamentals of the game, and many referees are new and learning as well.
The coaches are giving their time to help our students learn good sportsmanship.
They will all make mistakes.
Using profanity, sideline coaching, or aggressive behavior violates the
Wood County Schools’ Visitor Policy 1310. Actions such as these may result in visitors not
being allowed to return to games or other school functions. The score of this basketball game will be forgotten over time, but the actions of the players, coaches, and spectators will long be remembered.
